Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys (or cowgirls)....

We have a big announcement. We are going to be parents! Alisa is pregnant with TWINS! The babies are due in late May. Alisa has been pregnant since late September, but we decided to wait until after Christmas to announce it to the world (or at least anyone who happens to read our blog).

We are very excited about the pregnancy. As you know, we have been anxious to bring children into our family. We feel very blessed, and we are so grateful for your prayers and support.

Although the children will be born in Texas, I hope they will be more interested in basketball than cow tipping.

(Alisa, please don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys. I really can't stand country music.)

  1. I can't believe it! I'm totally excited and a little jealous. In order to get my first three I had to be pregnant for 27 months of the last three years and here you get a two-for-one special! Really, I can't be more thrilled for you and Lonnie. You are going to make fantastic parents. Sure love ya'll.

  2. hey, alisa, it's april (annie's sister-in-law) here. i just did a google search to find the lyrics of "soy un hijo de Dios" and your blog came in at number 5 or so. how fun is that! thanks for the lyrics; i don't know why i'm struggling finding it on the church website. how fun to be able to sing that song in so many languages with your extended family!

and now... CONGRATS ON THE TWINS!!!! I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU! May is a great time for babies. Hope you are feeling ok; i know twins can exaggerate all those lovely preggie symptons. again, i'm so ecstatic for you and those babies will be so lucky to have you for a mom.

  4. That is WONDERFUL news! Keeping it a secret for so long is a major accomplishment in my book, I can hardly keep these things a secret for a day much less months!! I hope all is going well...May isn't too far away! Two for one isn't a bad deal either as was stated but boy will you have your happy little hands full! My mother in law had twin boys for her last pregnancy and they all have some hilarious stories to tell, depending on the point of view of the teller!
Congratulations again to both of you, this is such an amazing blessing, I am thrilled for you both!

  8. Alisa, it's Angela in Kansas (Stephanie's sister-in-law). I AM SO DELIGHTEDLY HAPPY FOR YOU! How great you must be feeling (or not, depending on how the pregnancy's hitting you). Seriously, I am so glad your little ones are on the way and I hope you keep that adoption door open. I say, have a bunch of kids and have them every way possible! :>

Lonnie, I can't imagine that your super-strong watersports/basketball/U genes won't triumph in some way. :> Congratulations!!!

  9. Thank you everyone for your comments! I am very happy about getting a two-for-one deal because we're as ready as we can be for the craziness of parenthood. I think Alisa, at times over the past couple of months, has felt like she is paying for the price of four (more on that in later posts). :)

On the Mercer side of the family, I have 5 brothers, 1 sister, 12 nephews, and 5 nieces. Given the underrepresentation of females, it may be that Mercers just know how to make boys or maybe we're due for some more balance.

Angela, we definitely hope that adoption will be in our future. We also like the idea of bringing kids into our home in every possible way.
