Obama on fathers

Other than a brief comment just before Maya and Max were born, Alisa and I haven't expressed our appreciation of Barack Obama on our blog. We voted for Obama during the Texas Democratic Primary/Caucus and even served as delegates at our county convention.

Obama gave an impressive speech on Father's Day. I embedded a clip from youtube with the speech. It's fairly long (almost 25 minutes), but I highly recommend you take some time to listen, if you haven't heard it already. We so often hear short clips from speeches, and this talk in its entirety is excellent. Although some of his comments are directed toward the African American community, his thoughts are relevant to all fathers and families. As a new father, I found his words to be encouraging.

40 weeks gestation

Due to the fact that we know the exact date that the babies were conceived, we know that today would have been the day that they completed 40 weeks gestation. Having been born five weeks early they missed out on some of the last weeks of womb development, but they are doing great and growing wonderfully. We have left the pregnancy counter going to remind ourselves that these babies are so young that technically they aren't even born yet. I must admit that even with a very difficult pregnancy, taking care of these babies is easier inside the womb than out in the world. But we are so happy to be able to get to know them and learn about their personalities.

Happy Birthday Babies! We love you!

It look like the pregnancy countdown is now counting up. I guess we can now consider the date shown on the calender as how many days past 40 days gestation the babies are now.

the phantom triplet

I'm pretty sure that we only brought two babies home from the hospital....but often I will hear a baby crying, sometimes in the middle of the night, often during the day. I will get out of bed walk over to check on the babies and both of them will be sound asleep. I don't have the slightest idea which of them had been crying. It must have been the phantom triplet.
