Lonnie and I love to go for Sunday drives. Lonnie drives while I sit back and relax and enjoy the view. This past Sunday we picked a spot on the map about 45 mins away and jumped in the car with the kids. We were amazed at what we found.
The road was often a jungle covered tunnel and the views from the mountains were fabulous.
and then we came around the corner and saw this....
Piha beach...
the beach was covered in soft black sand.
It didn't take Max long to get wet.
We missed the World Junior Surfing Championship by a couple of hours but there were still plenty of surfers.
OH, I wish that I were there!
ReplyDeleteArgh!!! I have been thinking of you and wishing I was in New Zealand. Let me know if you need anything. I still have several mission comps who live in Auckland.
ReplyDeleteThat looks wonderful! Glad you are able to get out & enjoy the area :) I was just saying how wonderful it would be to feel the warmth of the sun again & to go for a walk on the beach, so thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking, Alisa. I'm so happy for you guys!
ReplyDeleteYou would hit it off very well with my online friend Fiona. She has in-vitro twins, is about to deliver baby #3 and has lived in Uruguay and is currently living in Bulgaria. Actually, she's in the US to deliver the baby, but then she'll be back to Bulgaria with her hubby. I think you'd like each others' blogs with all that you twin-bearing bohemians have in common.

Ah, Piha Beach and Lion Rock. The climb up the rock is great, but the kids would need to be tethered to you. I love the black birds there in the march you have to cross to get to the beach. Did you stop at the museum on the way to Piha? Great place for kids: wetas and a huge statue of a moa. Plus they have a giant picture frame to take a family photo in, so take along a designated photographer.
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking!!! Are you accepting visitors? It's a far cry from my 12 degree morning here. Just what I needed to put a smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteThat is so astoundingly beautiful! It reminds me a bit of San Rafael. Oh, I'm so jealous in a good way. I would love to give my kids these kinds of experiences. It's funny, because Eric and I love to go on drives and explore as well. Fun times, Alisa, fun times.
ReplyDeleteHow is the house hunting coming? More refusals to lease?
This is so beautiful! Hope you guys are settling in- we miss you here! LY
ReplyDeleteWow, Alisa, looks like you're having lots of adventures. The pictures remind me of Costa Rica. I'll have to check out your blog more often!!
ReplyDeleteThe beach pictures are beautiful. I hope you can handle the change in your living area. How long are you planning on staying in that apartment? It's funny. You might feel cramped, but the kids are look equally happy no matter what there living arrangements are. They have eachother and mom and dad.
