today is a good day.....

(photo taken around my birthday in 2004 on the doorstep of a shop in Paris, France)

Today is a good day.

Today is my birthday.

I feel asleep this afternoon with a baby in my arms.

This year, if I could ask for anything for my birthday, I wish that I could be influential in the life of a child. Of course, I would love to be a mother, but that is something over which I have little control. What I can control is myself, I can open my heart to serve others, especially children. I can make myself available to those who might need my help. I can open my heart and my home.

I got a call last night from Lyle, my friend Emily's husband. He told me that Emily is sick with strep throat and knocked out with medication. He asked if I could come over and help Emily take care of their 3 month old daughter Eva. I arrived at about 9:00 am and stayed most of the day until 5:00 pm. I was glad to be able to help Emily get needed rest while I cared for Eva.

So what greater gift could I start the year out with being able to take a nap on a recliner with a beautiful baby in my arms?

Today is a good day.

  1. Happy Birthday!!! Did you that I too am a cancer? I love this picture so much that I am going to paint my front porch with this same phrase. BTW- I am totally serious about the kid time-share.

  2. Send them over any time. They might enjoy Houston sometime other than the summer. It gets a little hot here these days. Thank heaven for AC.

  3. Happy Belated Birthday!
I only just discovered your blog. It is very jazzy! How I miss you too! I was thinking of you the day of your birthday. I hope you are wonderful. Lonnie & yourself look great.
Wish you would come and visit.
    Much love

  4. Alisa!

My dear, sweet, compassionate, passionate, intellegent, beautiful, rebellious, WONDERFUL friend whom I miss SOOOOO MUCH!!!!! Thank you so much for your email and the link to your blog spot. I read every word, looked at every picture and find myself sitting here with a full heart. I think this is a fantastic idea to bring your family "home". I agree and believe that there are a number of ways and means to bring children in to your life. I admire your courage for being open to the possibilities of the internet among other options to make your hopes and dreams become realities. Although I feel like I know you pretty well, your website and your information makes me feel like I know you even BETTER. As I look at your blog spot objectively, I would hope that someone looking and reading your information for the first time gains a fantastic glimpse at the wonderful couple you and Lonnie truly are. I wish you all the luck and will send good vibes and love your way...Not to mention you are in my prayers!

I will keep your email in my "friends and family" file and check your blog spot occasionally...Or if you want to send me updates...I'd love to stay in the loop!

It WAS great to sit and chat with you for a few minutes during your recent trip to Utah. I wish we could have spent more time! (As always!!!!)
