Names, names, names...

So we've been discussing baby names for some time. It's complicated enough when you just have to think of one name, but we have the duty to name two kids at the same time. We're pretty settled on the name Maya for a girl, and we even have a back up girl's name in case both are girls. But we haven't really settled on a name for a boy. We have a front runner, but we thought we'd do another poll to see what you (our friends and family) think of various boy names. Please feel free to make comments and add suggestions. You aren't going to hurt our feelings, so fire away. By the way, we reserve the right to name the children whatever we like, and you might want to be careful about expressing your opinion to Alisa once the names are set. You know how mothers get protective of their children. :)

  1. I definitely think boy names are harder than girls - although Nacho is pretty tempting :-). Maya is a beautiful girls name!

  2. Sometimes to take a poll it is helpful to have a couple of options for people to choose from, unless Front Runner is the name you are thinking of. For boys, we liked Conner, although it is getting a little popular. Pretty much if we see a baby name in any top 10 we do not like it anymore. Evan is also nice, but know it is Welsh for John (so he could be secretly named for Alisa's Dad). Maya is very cute, but a little too popular for me. Good thing you are naming your own babies and not mine! Good luck!

  3. OK, so I did not see the poll on the left side (mainly because I read the post in Google Reader) but I still think Front Runner would be a great name for your first son.

  4. Humm...
I have to say ugg to Mordecai and Tyrone. I like Henry or Drake, after the pirates, and William (also a pirate) as well as Andrew with the short version being Drew not Andy (not a pirate name that I know of). Of those listed in your poll I also like Bryce.
    Good luck!!!!

  5. Alisa--I was checking some blogs and thought, "I'll check Alisa's. I wonder what she is going to name her babies." Lo and behold...

Maya is a great name. I voted for Martin and Bryce. Like 'em. I also like Malcolm. I didn't see it the first timeI think that (as of now) our first boy will be named Nathaniel. We're not even expecting yet, so who knows if that will change when, and if, the opportunity presents itself!

  6. I like Martin, I've been trying to name something Martin for a long time. I get to name the pets and the cars and jac gets the kids.

  7. Keep the votes and comments coming in! I think it's pretty fascinating to see which of these names get the most votes.

In case it's not overly obvious, several of the names are my suggestions, and I'm the only one who has voted for them. I mean, Tyrone is an awesome name for a pasty red-headed kid. As for Mario, it would be right up there if we were having two boys and named them Mario and Luigi. :) Then Mordecai comes from the movie "Raising Arizona", but even I couldn't actually name a child Mordecai.

Great idea for Front Runner as a boy's name, especially with this being a presidential election year. It's too bad that the boy is on track to be born after his sister.

As for Martin, I thought of it the other day when I was listening to an NPR clip about MLK. Pretty good namesake.

  8. I think you guys are brave (and maybe nuts) to ask for input. :> What is great about baby names is seeing how the baby "becomes" that name. I am sure you will pick the perfect names for the twins. I also really like the story behind names - Maya will want to know why she is Maya, and you will have a great story to tell her. What about middle names? I love hearing people's middle names and why.

Alisa, I hope you are not having too tough of a time, these last few weeks. Savor it as much as possible. So many people say "they're easier in than out" and while I get that, I also think there is NOTHING like seeing and holding your baby for the first time. I am so excited for you both!

  9. Isn't that the truth! There is nothing so amazing as holding your baby (babies) for the first time. I remember when Michael was born I just kept thinking "this is totally crazy I have a baby!!!" Brings new feeling to term "posterity." Children are such a miracle. You are both going to love looking into those little faces and holding their little tiny hands and changing all those little tiny bums!

    Malachi?

Congratulations and good luck with the names!
